My Presentation 2

และแล้ว..วันที่นักเรียนต้อง presentation หนังสือที่ตัวเองเลือกอ่านก้อมาถึง..

ทอมเค้ามีเอาหนังสือมาให้เลือกหลายเรื่องอยู่..มีแนวรัก...สืบสวน..ผจญภัย..ชีวิต แล้วก้อตลกฮาฮา..แล้วแต่ใครจะเลือกเล่มไหน..แต่ปัญหาคือไอ้เล่มที่ยุ่นอยากได้ เราต้องรอคิวเพราะมีการยืมยาว..ซึ่งไม่รู้เมื่อไร..จึงต้องตัดสินใจเอาเล่มที่มีในห้องสมุดตอนนั้น ซึ่งก้อคือ Treasure Island...

หลังจากที่ยุ่นได้ใช้ความพยายามในการอ่านประมาณเกือบ 100 หน้า..ให้รู้สึกว่ามันไม่ใช่แนวที่เราชอบเลย..อ่านแล้วเบื่อมากๆ..เพราะมันเป็นแนวผจญภัย...ยุ่นว่าเด็กผู้ชายน่าจะชอบมากกว่า..และอีกอย่างภาษาที่เค้าใช้ ก้อจะเป็นแสลงของพวกโจรสลัด..เข้าใจยากมากๆ...เลย delete ทำการหาเอง..โดยไปยืนอ่านที่ shelf ในห้องสมุด..ยืนหาจนเจอเล่มที่เราอ่านไปสักสิบกว่าหน้าแล้วมันน่าสนใจ..ก้อเลยเลือก The Walk ของ Richard Paul Evans....

การ presentation ทอมมีตารางให้ present วันละ 5 คน ก้ออยู่ประมาณ 6 วัน..ก้อค่อยๆฟังกันไป..และสำหรับการมาบอกเล่าหนังสือที่เราอ่าน ( ไม่ใช่ภาษาของเรา) และมาบอกเล่าเป็นภาษาที่ไม่ใช่ของเราอีก..มันก้อไม่ง่ายนัก มีนักเรียนหลายคนถามว่าจะ presentation อย่างไรที่จะให้คนอื่นเค้ารู้เรื่องที่เราอ่านในเวลาไม่เกินสิบนาที พร้อมใส่ความคิดเห็น..ของเราว่าทำไมชอบหรือไม่ชอบเรื่องนี้..จะทำได้ไง..( ลืมบอกไปนักเรียนในห้องส่วนใหญ่เป็นประชาชนชาวจีน..มีไทยหนึ่ง สเปนหนึ่ง ตะวันออกกลางหนึ่ง อินเดียหนึ่ง ) และแ่ต่ละชาติก้ออย่างที่บอกมันมีสำเนียงของตัวเองในการพูดภาษาอังกฤษ...ซึ่งหากเราไม่ใช่ฝรั่ง..เราจะฟังแล้วไม่ค่อยเข้าใจเท่าไรนัก..

ทอมก้อไม่ได้สาธิตให้ดู..แต่ก้อพูดคร่าวๆว่าเป็นแนวนี้...สรุป ทุกคนไปงมหาทางกันเอง..

วันแรก..สี่คนแรก..เรียกว่าเป็นผู้เสียสละมาก..เพราะไม่มีทิศทาง..และก้อพูดกันไปคนละ 15-20 นาที...คนฟังก้อฟังรู้เรื่องบ้าง ไม่รู้เรื่องบ้าง..แต่ยุ่นรู้เลยว่ามันยากในการที่เราจะ present ออกมาจริงๆ..

ทอมเค้าก้อแนะว่าเหมือนเราเขียน essay บอกความรู้สึกว่าทำไมชอบหรือไม่ชอบหนังสือเรื่องนี้ เค้าให้ทุกคนทำ book review จากนั้นก้อเอาไอ้ book review เนี่ย..มาเรียบเรียงเป็น essay

ยุ่นก้อเลยลองดู..วันที่ยุ่น present เป็นวันที่สี่...และจริงๆยุ่นได้เป็นคิวสุดท้าย.. ปรากฎคิว 1 2 3 มาสาย ยุ่นเลยกลายเป็นคนที่สอง..คนแรกเป็นผู้ชายจีนอายุมากแล้วเหมือนกัน....หนังสือที่เค้าเลือกเป็นแนวสืบสวน..ฟังไม่เข้าใจเลย..เค้าพูดประมาณ 25 นาที ถูกทอมเตือนเรื่องเวลาเกินสองรอบ...

จากนั้นก้อเป็นยุ่น...ก้อประมาณนี้นะ..ใช้เวลาประมาณหกนาทีกว่าๆ...คิดว่าไม่มากไม่น้อยเกินไป..

Today I’m going to tell you about the novel I read “The Walk”

When we face with miserable moment, it’s not easy to accept the pain and pass through it. In Richard Paul Evans “The Walk” is a story about a simple man that could be any man we meet on the street. Unexpectedly, one day his life is collapsed in a very short time. What he has lost and finally what he has found. We truly don’t know about him until this book is opened, “The Walk.”

The story sets in 2005. Alan Chistoffersen a Seattle advertising executive whose life is perfect: he’s happily married to his childhood sweetheart, McKale, also he’s very successful in his career. He and his friend, Kyle, own an advertising company when Alan is only 28 years old. Within less than six weeks, his life changes from fulfillment to nothing. His wife has a serious accident- throw from a horse and she’s paralyzed. He spends three weeks at her side and leaves his business in Kyle’s hand. When he comes back to his company, he finds out that Kyle has betrayed him. Kyle takes all his clients and employees with him and opens another new company. Moreover, his car is repossessed, his house is foreclosed and his wife’s medical bill is more than a quarter million dollars that makes him panic. The worse thing follows, a few days later his wife has a urinary infection that has spread to her blood stream. She dies soon and Alan is left alone with his misery. He’s tempted by his darkest thoughts and decides to end his problems with a bottle of pills. At that moment, a voice stops him. “Life is not yours to take.” In spite of hopeless, he leaves everything behind him and decides to take a walk from Seattle to Spokane. The people he meets along his way and the lessons they share with him make him find himself, change his thoughts and finally save his life.

Another character that I was impressed in this story is Ally- a young waitress Alan meets on his journey. She works in a roadside diner and has very tough life herself. However, she is concerned other’s people’s feeling, she's friendly, generous, and she is an optimistic and a strong woman who looks for the good in life. She gives Alan the food of thought, “The thing is, the only real sign of life is growth. And growth requires pain. So to choose life is accept pain. Some people go to such lengths to avoid pain that they give up on life. They bury their heart, or they drug or drink themselves numb until they don't feel anything anymore. The irony is, in the end their escape becomes more painful than what they're avoiding."

Also she encourages Alan in not giving up living, “You know, [McKale] is not really gone. She’s still a part of you. What part of you is your choice. She can be a spring of gratitude and joy, or she can be a fountain of bitterness and pain. It’s entirely up to you.” To me, this is a very powerful part in this book that I admire.


I do like “The Walk” because it is a simple and contemporary novel that we can easily understand the characters and situations. Also, at the beginning of each chapter, there are two or three lines of Alan’s diary that is like a hook which makes me eager to know what will happen next. For example:
- The reason we start things is rarely the reason we continue them. OR
- Often the simplest of decisions carry the direst of consequences

Moreover, the meaning behind this story gives me some good thinking that we are all on walk. We don’t know what lies ahead of us. However, there are people we’ve yet to meet who are waiting for our path to intersect with theirs, so they can complete their own journeys and we can complete ours. Also, we should look for beauty in everyone we meet, and we will find the good parts inside them. Furthermore, in one’s life, we have chances to meet both happiness and sadness. However, when we face with miserable moment, although it’s painful, we learn from it and we grow up. It’s our choice how to look through the problem. We can be victims of the circumstance or master of our own fate. We can apply this inspiration to our real life. The walk is a wonderful book I highly recommend everyone to read and I give the walk 8 marks.

เมื่อเทียบกับลุงคนแรก ของยุ่นแบบสั้นกระชับ จนทุกคนน่าจะงง...พอเดินลงมา..ผู้หญิงสเปนที่นั่งหน้าสุดเค้าก้อยกนิ้วหัวแม่โป้งให้ยุ่น...และตอนช่วงพัก..เค้าก้อหันหลังมาชมยุ่นเสียงดังเลย...( เค้านั่งหน้าห้องสุด ยุ่นนั่งหลังห้องสุด ) " Your presentation is very good!" ยุ่นก้อยิ้มกว้าง ดีใจนะ..ก้อขอบคุณเค้า..เพื่อนคนจีนที่นั่งข้างยุ่นก้อชมเรา..แหม..เรารู้สึกตัวมันจะลอยๆไงไม่รุ้..แต่ก้อรู้สึกดีนะ..

อาจเพราะเวลา present ยุ่นจะพูดช้าและชัดเจน..คิดว่าทำให้คนฟังฟังรู้เรื่อง อีกอย่างเรื่องที่เราเลือกก้อแบบไม่สลับซับซ้อน..และเราใช้ศัพท์ง่ายๆ..ให้พวกเค้าฟังเข้าใจ...จริงๆเรื่องที่ยุ่นเลือกเนี่ย..ไม่ใช่เรื่องที่ทอมแนะนำ..เป็นเรื่องธรรมดามาก..ของเพื่อนๆ..เป็นแนวสืบสวนเอย...แนวผจญภัยเอย...คิดดูสิ ศัพท์แสงมันก้อคงยาก...เรื่องก้อเข้าใจยาก... ส่วนของยุ่น..คนฟังคงฟังรู้เรื่องมากกว่า...ถือว่าโชคดีไป...เพราะฉะนั้น การเลือกเรื่องง่ายๆ....ไม่ซับซ้อน..ก้อมีชัยไปกว่าครึ่ง...55555

และนี่ก้อเป็นการสอบอันสุดท้ายของ Communication 11 ...
